HOW HARD IS IT TO TINT MY OWN CAR?

1/26/2018

How hard is it really to tint my own car?

We get this question time to time. Some customers hear the price $195 for a full tint, “well I can just tint it myself” not something we usually suggest but if you want to really try here is a few suggestions.

Supplies needed:
A clean facility No dog hair, cat hair, dust, anything that can get on the tint (note you won’t see these items until the tint dries and then you have to start over again after you peel the dry film off and remove all the glue)
Heat gun No, your hair dryer will not cut it. Spray bottle With water and a tint solution.
Tint tools Special red dot blade holder, 50 pack of razor blades for your blade holder. About 4 or 5 different tools that are different for each tinter. (You will most likely need to borrow these tools because if you purchased them you mine as well have gone to us for tinting at that price.)
Quality film This is the hardest problem you will have. You cannot buy quality film. Only quality film manufacturers sell to tint shops. And if you perhaps are lucky enough to get your hand on a box of film it won’t be under warranty. The manufactures only warranty the film if one of their installers install it. Make sure you buy a lot of extra film. Most back window is very hard and it will take about 2 or 3 times to get it right.
Patients A professional tinter will take about 2 hours from the time the car pulls in todelivery. Expect to triple or quadruple that time.
Cell Phone or computer You will want to watch about 3 to 4 hours of YouTube videos before you start the project. Study their methods of shrinking, cutting, installing, and removing gaskets, how to property clean the windows, what kind of solution you can or cannot use.

Now you are on your way to tinting your car.
Once you have finished make sure you take pictures of the finished product. Post them, be proud.  Now, here is what to watch for over the next three to four weeks.

Little bubbles: These are normal but should be gone after 3 weeks Large bubbles: Not normal, borrow those tools again, heat it up and hope it goes away. If not, take it off and redo it. Make sure you google “how to remove tint” Little wiggles: Yep, that is the hair or dirt. Sorry, redo… Lifting: Too much water. Take it off… start over. Turning purple: Sorry, most film that is sold on the streets comes with a two-year warranty but even those have to be installed by an professional shop.

HERES OUR NUMBER TWO TIP:

DON’T REMOVE FILM BY PEELING IT OF!  THIS IS A NO NO NO!
Film must be steamed off with a steamer on your back windows. Think of your back window defrosters as facial hair and wax. Rip it off and your defroster lines will have a new home on their forever tint in your garbage can.

AND OUR NUMBER ONE TIP:

PAY PREMIER TINT PROS THE $195 TO TINT YOUR CAR. YOU CAN EVEN CRACK OPEN A BEER AND WATCH US.

New Year's Resolutions For Your Car

1/15/2018

Picture
We are half way through the first month of January and many of us have fallen off the “resolution” wagon already. However, it’s not too late for our vehicles. Here is a simple yet effective goal to work towards: Keeping your car maintained.

Give your vehicle the love it deserves!

Keep the inside of your car clean

Nothing is more embarrassing than having trash in your car. With a car full of garbage and trash people will think you are a slob. Here are a few tips to keep your car clean.
  1. Pick a nice day to get all the garbage out and wipe down the inside of the car.
  2. When you are pumping gas, take the time to get all the garbage out of the car (that’s why they have cans by the pump J )
  3. When you come home every night, remove all belongings that need to go in your house and remove any garbage from the day. Nothing will make you feel better to start your day in a clean and organized car.

Be proactive with symptoms

When you hear a sound in your car and you KNOW it’s not right, don’t wait to see if it gets worse. You will have a piece of mind that your car is going to be okay, instead of wondering if or when it will break down.

Schedule service appointments

Your car has a body too and it needs regular checkups. Scheduling at least two service appointments a year will help you keep your car running longer and stronger.

Keep your fluids topped off

Did you know that most relationships fights could be ignored by just topping off your car fluids? How many times has your partner yelled at your for not filling up the gas tank before coming home? Or filling up the window washer fluid? Checking your fluids every time you get gas will save you hours of fighting per year, and make you more productive each morning. (hint, that is why they have paper towels next to the garbage can too!)

Pay attention to your tires

Talk about a buzz kill! Nothing ruins your day more than a flat tire! When you are done pumping gas... check your tires! (Another hint, that is why they have air pumps at gas stations too! I know…. If they work)

Listen to your service technician
You might think that it is a taboo that all service advisors or technician is out to get you. However, most shops really do want to take care of you and your car. They want to keep you as a long-term client, not someone to just rip off once and lose you forever. If they say you need a repair and are unsure, take it for a second opinion.
Pay your tickets and toll fines
Nothing is worse than wondering if you are going to get a boot on your car. And if you live in Chicago and owe money, don’t think about parking at the airport. You will get booted. Call the city and work something out. You will realize they will work with you.
Reward your vehicle and yourself
There is nothing like spoiling yourself and your vehicle with a little reward! Window tint is a great way to upgrade your car and not spend that much money! Protect yourself everyday by the UV rays by adding LLumar Window Films from Premier Tint Pros.
Are your ready for the challenge? You can do it! Start today and call Premier tint pros at 630-488-0813!

Window Tinting in the Fall

10/24/2017

Picture
It seems it took Illinois a little while to catch up and leave behind those warm, summer days, but just because it’s no longer hitting close to 80 or 90 degrees outside, doesn’t mean that your window tinting will cease to be amazing. If you don’t have window tint on your vehicle, you might just change your mind!

There is still sunlight in the fall right? Of course! Where there is sunlight there are the sun’s harmful UV rays, as well. No matter what the cooler weather brings along with it, it’s important to be prepared, because the sunlight is still present during the day. In fact, all day long UV rays will enter your car, causing dashboards and seats fade over time. If you’re driving inside your car, you’re at risk of soaking up UV rays, too. One easy way to be protected from the sun’s harmful rays is with window tinting film.

Premier Tint Pros offers several different window tinting options for your vehicle, but the one thing all the films have in common is the ability to keep out harmful UV rays. Heating your vehicle when temperatures drop is also something to think about. Did you know that windows alone are not effective when it comes to heating your car? That’s what makes window tinting even more amazing. As it works to keep out UV rays, reduced fuel costs for the fall is an inevitable bonus benefit.

Protection couldn’t be more simple. If you want to know more about window tinting film benefits for the fall, please feel free to contact our team members at 630-488-0813.

One year reflection ....

10/12/2017

A year ago, on Oct. 15, 2016, we received the keys to Premier Tint Pros first professional shop. After 11 years of tinting, Carlos Avila turned the keys to start his plans for becoming a well-established Professional Tint Shop. Only hours later after the turn of the first key, the paint went on the walls, the film was unloaded from his car and the blades came out. A few hours after that the cars started driving in and they never stopped. They doubled, tripled, quadrupled and continued to come every day, week and month.  Along with Carlos and his dad, Carlos Sr. came the rest of the staff that began to grow. First came Gilbert, Ivan, Alex, countless family members, and then the staff grew larger with Antonio, Cristóbal, Matias, Sebastian and more.

There were many great times when the tint went on effortlessly and there were times of tears and many redos. The skills began to grow and the reviews went through the roof! Our name was out there, we were known. Friends were made, smiles were shared, events were celebrated and we gave back to our community.

Driving through my hometown of Oswego I pull up to a light and know the car, see our work, and share the smile and thumbs up I receive from the driver of the car.  I walk into our local high school football games and see the Wolfpack throwing powder and streamers celebrating their team wins, knowing that was made possible by us giving back to our schools. The marching band parades down the street at OHS and there is our name on the back of the shirts.  This is our town, this is our home, you are our clients that we are so grateful for.

The people who say, “you can’t” or

“you won’t” are probably the ones

who are afraid you will!

A year ago, many people told us that we would not make it. We would fail. We wouldn’t survive in this area and we couldn’t do the unthinkable. We have cried (I have cried) we have celebrated, we have fought with one another, we have stormed the roughest waters at times. Then just when we thought….. no, we never thought that… we knew we would make it, we would move forward, we would make the great times better and the better times amazing.

Today, one year later we as a team have taken on a new set of keys to our second home. The doors will open in a couple of weeks, the plotter will roll off the LLumar trucks with stacks of tint boxes to be put on the shelves. The staff will come in with tons of experience and smiles on their faces. “WE BUILT THIS” together, as a team. A team that pushed through everything to make a dream and future not only for our family but yours too. A dream of having your car look exactly as you want it. A dream of providing great window tint to keep you and your family safe from Skin Cancer and from damaging rays.

Carlos and I want to thank each family member, employee, customer, chamber members, auto dealership and community members for making 2016 and 2017 an amazing year! We look forward to serving the Oswego and Fox Valley area for many years to come.

And to Carlos Avila, our boss, our tint master, our reason for being here ;)  we thank you personally for making everything come together for us!

The Premier Tint Pros family.

Dealership installed tint- is it a good Idea?

You wrapped up the sales pitch on your new car and your looking over all the “additional” features the dealership offers and you see “Window Tint”. And you think, “why not, I am buying my car here” however, you need to really think about what you are about to do. With more and more dealerships getting into the window tinting business you need to take the time to ask some questions.

“Don’t ALL dealerships tint cars at their stores?”

The answer is no. Many of the dealerships contract out to a reputable tint shop like Premier Tint Pros. In fact, many tint shops like Premier send their own employees to the dealerships to tint their customers car right in the back of the shop while you are sitting in the waiting room. In this case the dealership is the middle man. Save yourself the middle man expenses and call us direct.
Some shops, not like Premier Tint, train an in-house guy in the dealerships.
Most of the time, the dealership has been sold on the "in-house" program from a company who specializes in selling such programs to dealerships who are looking to increase their "gross" (profit margin per car).
The "pitch" usually includes the promise to train ANYONE in the dealership to tint cars in about 2 weeks. After giving the employee a crash course in the application of window tinting, the new "installer" is thrown to the wolves and expected to be as good or better than someone who has been installing for years. This is a bogus claim. (Most quality minded window tint installers are those who were trained over a period of several months if not a year or longer. Premier Tint Pros best installers was trained over a 12-month period tinting over 10 cars a day).  When you leave with the car the windows look great, until the tint starts to dry and you see the errors in the installation. Think about it... If the employee who tints the dealership cars only views his job as an 8 to 5 way to collect a weekly pay check...  will he do a good job on your new car? Do you really want someone learning on your new vehicle? Do you really want to trust your new $25,000 to $90,000 car to someone who was washing cars just last year and now is the dealership's window tinting "expert"?
Hand Cut vs. Machine Cut?
Most dealerships do not have the luxury of owning a plotter to cut the film. Therefore, the un-experienced tinter is now taking a razor blade to your new car windows and tracing the pattern along your glass. YIKES!
What kind of film are they using?
Most Dealerships are not from the tint industry where they understand the difference in dyed, metalized or ceramic films. They usually purchase one type of film and that is what is placed on your car. For instance you hear the popular “3M” name and you think “oh… we are good”, however did you know that there are so many versions of that film you could have no idea what you are really getting.
Leave the Sales to the dealership and Tinting to the Pros!
Call Premier Tint Pros to book your window tint. We will be more than happy to tint your vehicle the same day that you pick it up from the dealership. From two window tint matches to full vehicle tints we can have you on the road with a lifetime warranty card in your hand.  Call us at 630-488-0813. With two locations one in Oswego and Fox Valley/Aurora we are only minutes away from your dealership.

Should I still tint my windows?
Labor Day weekend just ended and the kids are back in school. People are closing their swimming pools and we are pulling out our fall decorations while stores are setting up with their Christmas decorations. You waited all summer to get your windows tinted and just ran out of time and are wondering, “should I just wait till next summer?” With cooler temperatures comes wintry precipitation. As if driving in slick conditions wasn’t tricky enough, the glare from snow and ice can make it nearly impossible or uncomfortable on the eyes. Fortunately, window tint does much more than simply provide you with privacy while you’re inside your vehicle. It can also cut down on glare, which will improve your comfort and safety.

Glare from the Snow and Ice
Glare from snow and ice can certainly be a problem. In fact, there is a name for this snow glare problem and it’s called “snow blindness” and it results from being exposed to bright sunlight reflecting off snow over long periods of time. You’re already aware that a glare can pose problems for you while you’re driving, but when that glare is reflected off snow, it can be even worse. Instead of trying to reposition your visor, wearing sunglasses that impede your vision, or trying to squint your way through a road trip, you might want to consider window tint from Premier Tint Pros instead.

How Window Tint Helps

There are several types of window tint percentages out there, and many of these are designed to help block the amount of sunlight that enters your vehicle. This can not only help you keep your car cooler in the summer, but it can also reduce the amount of sunlight that gets into your eyes and affects your ability to drive safely. Believe it or not, in the wintertime, the sunlight reflecting off the snow can be 10 times brighter than usual. The right window tint can filter the light, thus reducing the glare. You often hear limo tint, 20% 35% in the window film language. These numbers mean the amount of sun that is coming through your windows. In Illinois, the front windows must be 35% window tint, meaning 35% of the sun is coming through your front windows. Premier Tint Pro’s will help you in consulting you about what is legal window tint in Illinois.
Even More Benefits
As if being able to filter out the glare caused by the sun reflecting off the snow wasn’t enough, window tint can keep you safe in other ways, too. Remember that it is possible to get a sunburn in the wintertime; if the sun is shining, there are UVA and UVB rays that can burn and damage your skin. All of the window tint films from Premier Tint Pros comes with UVA and UVB blocking, which can prevent that damage. What’s more, blocking that glare can also protect the interior of your car from fading or cracking, and it can keep your car cooler during the warm months, too.

Call Premier Tint Pros at 630-488-0813
Premier is open all year around in Oswego and our new Fox Valley location will be open this fall. We are open Monday through Friday from 8am-9pm and Saturday from 8am-6pm. Call us today to have your windows tinted and we will get you on the schedule the same day.
