Dealership installed tint- is it a good Idea?

You wrapped up the sales pitch on your new car and your looking over all the “additional” features the dealership offers and you see “Window Tint”. And you think, “why not, I am buying my car here” however, you need to really think about what you are about to do. With more and more dealerships getting into the window tinting business you need to take the time to ask some questions.

“Don’t ALL dealerships tint cars at their stores?”

The answer is no. Many of the dealerships contract out to a reputable tint shop like Premier Tint Pros. In fact, many tint shops like Premier send their own employees to the dealerships to tint their customers car right in the back of the shop while you are sitting in the waiting room. In this case the dealership is the middle man. Save yourself the middle man expenses and call us direct.
Some shops, not like Premier Tint, train an in-house guy in the dealerships.
Most of the time, the dealership has been sold on the "in-house" program from a company who specializes in selling such programs to dealerships who are looking to increase their "gross" (profit margin per car).
The "pitch" usually includes the promise to train ANYONE in the dealership to tint cars in about 2 weeks. After giving the employee a crash course in the application of window tinting, the new "installer" is thrown to the wolves and expected to be as good or better than someone who has been installing for years. This is a bogus claim. (Most quality minded window tint installers are those who were trained over a period of several months if not a year or longer. Premier Tint Pros best installers was trained over a 12-month period tinting over 10 cars a day).  When you leave with the car the windows look great, until the tint starts to dry and you see the errors in the installation. Think about it... If the employee who tints the dealership cars only views his job as an 8 to 5 way to collect a weekly pay check...  will he do a good job on your new car? Do you really want someone learning on your new vehicle? Do you really want to trust your new $25,000 to $90,000 car to someone who was washing cars just last year and now is the dealership's window tinting "expert"?
Hand Cut vs. Machine Cut?
Most dealerships do not have the luxury of owning a plotter to cut the film. Therefore, the un-experienced tinter is now taking a razor blade to your new car windows and tracing the pattern along your glass. YIKES!
What kind of film are they using?
Most Dealerships are not from the tint industry where they understand the difference in dyed, metalized or ceramic films. They usually purchase one type of film and that is what is placed on your car. For instance you hear the popular “3M” name and you think “oh… we are good”, however did you know that there are so many versions of that film you could have no idea what you are really getting.

It is good to know that you should go to someone who is professionally trained to get windows tinted, rather than just at a dealership. I didn't realize that there were so many things to consider in the process and how good it turns out. My husband wants to get his car tinted, so we will have to take your advice and find a professional company in our area.

I would love a car tint on my vehicle. I agree that my best bet would be to place my trust in the hands of a professional. I think that there's so much that could go wrong and I can't trust myself or someone not very experienced to do the job.
